The Impact of Global Drought on World Agriculture

Global drought poses a major challenge to world agriculture. This phenomenon has a direct impact on crop production, water availability and food security. However, its implementation requires education and support from the government and research institutions. Global food security is threatened by drought, as many countries depend on agricultural produce from hard-hit areas. Food importing countries such as countries in the Middle East and North Africa could face more serious food crises, which could lead to social and political instability. Therefore, international collaboration in research, technology and humanitarian assistance is more important than ever. The agricultural sector needs to adapt to face the reality of increasingly widespread drought. Investment in research and development of drought-resistant crop varieties, as well as water-saving irrigation technologies, should be a priority.
